Carnival time...

In this volatile and fractious world, community matters more than ever.

Communicator of the Week Award goes the Notting Hill Carnival, which turned 60 this year.

For all the scaremongering about carnival that a hostile press has pushed as a narrative over the years, it remains the largest community event in Europe and second largest in the world (after Rio's).

Men, women, children, families meet, sing, dance, eat and laugh together in a celebration of culture and community.

The most important lesson that Covid taught us, is that we crave human contact. When we are in each other's presence, great things can happen.

It is why Steve Jobs insisted that the design of the Pixar Headquarters featured a central atrium to facilitate people's physical encounters between people from different teams, because he recognised that great things happen when people meet and engage with each other.

As my clients will always tell you, my central coaching premise is that the highest form of communication is connection.

When you connect with people, they will buy into you and whatever you propose.

When they feel disconnected from you, no matter what you say, they wont buy it.

That is why my first rule of communication is: Seek first to connect!

Reindustrialising the country. And he spoke with emotion. At times tearfully - with no notes and without a lectern. This was...

If you haven't seen Diljit Dosanjh's video on his hilarious battle to get Alexa to play one of his songs, take a moment to watch it. But Communicator of the Week Award goes to Diljit Dosanjh, the Indian megastar, who made history as the first-everDoa Punjabi singer to headline at Wembley Stadium. Dosanjh is a consumate performer. He connects with his fans brilliantly, bringing them on stage, giving them gifts, taking selfies with them from stage. And he does all this staying true to his...

Be bold! Communicator of the Week Award goes to the ‘Lady in Blue’ art piece by Tschabalala Self, which is the latest sculpture to sit on the fifth plinth of Trafalgar Square. In the modern era of relentless scrutiny where cynicism, criticism, and outright hostility are the inevitable response to anyone who dares to communicate anything outside the norm, it would be easy and forgivable for an artist to choose to play it safe. It is inspiring to see that Tschabalala Self chose to do the...
