Be bold! Communicator of the Week Award goes to the ‘Lady in Blue’ art piece by Tschabalala Self, which is the latest sculpture to sit on the fifth plinth of Trafalgar Square. In the modern era of relentless scrutiny where cynicism, criticism, and outright hostility are the inevitable response to anyone who dares to communicate anything outside the norm, it would be easy and forgivable for an artist to choose to play it safe. It is inspiring to see that Tschabalala Self chose to do the opposite. Her sculpture is uncompromisingly out there. And yet she described her great work as an ‘Every woman’ homage to homage to young, metropolitan women. Why the hell not? It’s a judgment call to be sure, but sometimes, courageous communication that fearlessly courts criticism is far more effective than trying to appease people. Try it! Reindustrialising the country. And he spoke with emotion. At times tearfully - with no notes and without a lectern. This was...

In this volatile and fractious world, community matters more than ever. Communicator of the Week Award goes the Notting Hill Carnival, which turned 60 this year. For all the scaremongering about carnival that a hostile press has pushed as a narrative over the years, it remains the largest community event in Europe and second largest in the world (after Rio's). Men, women, children, families meet, sing, dance, eat and laugh together in a celebration of culture and community. The most important...
